Awards season has finally kicked off!! The 70th Annual Golden Globes were held on Sunday night where Hollywood’s A Lister’s flocked to the red carpet dressed to impress. It is safe to say that this hairstyle was one of the biggest trends during 2012 and is set to be big for 2013 also. This simple hairstyle can be worn for a laid back day time look or a fierce night time look. This hairstyle is so versatile; it can be worn in all shapes and sizes and from messy to polished styles. This hairstyle will soon become your go- to hairstyle for numerous occasions.

Keep these tips in mind when you are styling your top knot or ballerina bun!!

Before you begin to style your hair make sure to brush your hair to remove any knots.
Buns work better on dirty hair rather than freshly washed hair.
Use dry shampoo or a volumizing spray to add some more texture and oomph to your bun.
If you are going for the messy look, loosen random strands of your hair to the sides and back of your hairstyle.
If you are going for a smooth sleek finish, spray your brush with some hairspray to get rid of any fly aways.
If your hair isn’t quite long enough for a top knot or high bun you can wear the bun lower down on your head.
If you want a big voluminous look curl and tease your ponytail before wrapping it into the shape you want.
Make sure to have some bobby pins handy to help secure the hairstyle.

The Emmy Red Carpet was full of Hollywood glamour and glitz at its best. The night had so many gorgeous hairstyles that made this a must see event for those who want to recreate some of the looks at their own special event. The colour of the night was definitely blue, it was worn by some of biggest stars but there was nothing blue or boring about the big and beautiful glossy or the sleek polished hairstyles that accompanied the gowns.

And the winners are……

Sophia Vergara

Vergara was the stand out guest at the event and a highlight of the night in terms of her hairstyle. She gracefully placed long curls that were swept behind her shoulders down her back. Sofia has beautiful dark brown hair with lighter highlights towards the ends. The rest of her cast mates from Modern Family also looked ravishing on the night when they won ‘Best Outstanding Comedy Series,’ and their hairstyles were anything but comical.

Clare Danes

Julianne looked ravishing on the night in a Georges Hobieka gown that was balanced by her old Hollywood hairstyle. Heidi Klum was another highlight of the night, the Project Runway host had a very elegant hairstyle full of volume in perfect big curls which suited this blonde supermodel.

Mad Men

January Jones went for a brave, tightly brushed back hairstyle in a darker shade of blonde than usual. January looked more like a Zac Posen model in his gown rather than a television star with this risky but different look. Christina Hendricks however stayed true to her beautiful red curls in a slightly darker shade that looked striking as usual. Elisabeth Moss showed off her dramatic new haircut on the Emmy red carpet with her blonde locks that are a refreshing new look for the Mad Men star.

Miley Cyrus v Pink

The VMA’s was not just a battle for the Moon Man but also a battle for the most edgy and fashion forward haircut. Miley Cyrus made her first appearance on the red carpet rocking her new extravagant hairstyle. The young star revamped her long locks to a new modern grown up style of shaved sides with a large quiff in platinum blonde. The star must have taken inspiration from the world renowned bad girl of pop Pink who also sported the same hairstyle on the VMA red carpet. This is a big move for the Hannah Montana star who has received much criticism for her grown up antics including her recent engagement. However the haircut was somewhat overshadowed by her older pop rival Pink who wore the haircut with more confidence and conviction with silver studs down one side of her hair parting. She showed us that she is the real rock star in this battle.

VMA Hits with Red Lips

Rihanna

One of the style winners on the night however has to be Rihanna who graced the VMA red carpet with her new pixie haircut which mesmerized the audience and her adoring fans with a more subtle but still distinctively sexy Rihanna take on this classic look from the biggest name in pop. The haircut is one of her best as the colour illuminates her piercing hazel eyes. It may be considered a more demur look for Rihanna who is known for her radical transformations in terms of her hair going from red to blonde and now back to black. I think many will agree that it is great to see Rihanna looking so polished and graceful with this new look teamed with striking red lips to bring the sexy back to the boy cut.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift fashioned her red lips with glossy long poker straight blonde hair and bangs for a night at the VMA’s. She looked stylish and age appropriate showing that she is maturing into a well-deserved style icon. Taylor who usually sports her long locks in graceful curls has recently made the sraightened look her more signature look. The ‘We are never getting back together’ star pulled back her hair into a tidy ponytail during the performance of the hit song to pull off a super performance in effortless style.

Nicki Minaj was another stand out star on the night possibly considered by some for the wrong reasons by some with this statement neon wig with yellow, orange and pink streaks. This look is not for the faint hearted however for music’s big night hosted by the biggest entertainment channel known for the lavish ceremonies Minaj was fun and loud true to the events festivities. Minaj should therefore be praised for her risk taking innovative style.

Curls placed over the shoulder was a popular hairstyle between stars like Katy Perry, Demi Lovato and Kesha on the night who graced the red carpets with their effortless but elegant locks.
